The Vungalow: Meet Steve, Director of Engineering

Welcome to the Vungalow, a quiet little corner where we get to know the people taking Vungle to mobile’s next frontiers. As we kick off this new series, we hope that by understanding us better, you’ll understand the direction Vungle is going. Today we’re pulling our Director of Engineering, Steve, away from his favorite programming language for a few minutes so he can answer some important questions.

Hi, Steve! What’s your typical day like?

As Director of Engineering, I work closely with leads across engineering, product, and sales teams. We spend time solidifying engineering architecture and services that push our products and business towards the right objectives. Sometimes I also evangelize next-generation tech that will help Vungle become a more proficient trusted digital marketing guide for our customers.

Meet Steve, our Director of Engineering

What’s your favorite memory about working here?

Working at Vungle is like stepping into a theme park for the first time. There is so much to learn and experience. My personal growth at Vungle was tremendous — not limited to just technical knowledge but touching every aspect of the business.

“Working at Vungle is like stepping into a theme park for the first time.”

Everyone I work with at Vungle has something to teach me. The diverse perspectives and life experiences are bedazzling to me. Also, I love working with every single one of my teammates. I can’t emphasize enough how privileged I am to be able to work with them. Their support, dedication, and curiosity have bolstered the entire engineering department.

What’s on your desk right now?

My desk is a miniature composition of all the information we have in this world. It’s messy, disorganized, and inaccessible to most people. However, with the right mindset of indexing, every piece — full of thought and context — is exactly where it should be.

You’re hosting a dinner party and can invite any three guests. Who are they?

Bill Gates, Larry Page, and Nelson Mandela. They are my inspirational leaders. I like Bill’s and Nelson’s pursuits in philanthropy. Their views of this world remove national and political boundaries. At the same time, one of my favorite quotes is from Larry Page: “It’s often easier to make progress on big, ambitious goals than less risky projects. Few people are crazy enough to try, and those are usually the ones you want to work with.”

What inspires you in the morning?

I wake up every morning knowing that what I do today will help people better spend their time on digital platforms. I feel excited when I do something that will make our planet a better place.

Thanks for stopping by the Vungalow! We look forward to introducing another talented Vungler next time.
